Is Phuket Becoming the New Ibiza?

Phuket is being compared to Ibiza more and more often, and the comparison is worth taking seriously. It is not about the party reputation. It is about a destination that has grown a distinct identity, its own energy and an international following, and about the brands and developers who are now arriving to be part of it.

At Luxxe Hospitality, we connect international restaurant, hospitality and lifestyle brands with hotels and developments around the world. Phuket is one of the most interesting places on our radar right now.

What made Ibiza, Mykonos, St Barths and the Amalfi Coast more than holiday spots

Ibiza, Mykonos, St Barths and the Amalfi Coast are no longer just places to take a holiday. Each has developed its own identity, its own energy and its own international appeal. People travel to them for what they stand for, not only for the beach.

That shift is what the Ibiza comparison is really pointing at. A destination becomes a brand when the food, the venues, the people and the atmosphere all pull in the same direction.

The ingredients Phuket already has

Phuket has the raw material: turquoise beaches, striking scenery, great food, a strong local culture and some of the best hospitality in the world. Its tropical climate also supports a lifestyle that works year-round, which matters if you want people to stay, return and eventually live part of their year there.

What is being built, from Bang Tao to Kamala

Established names are already here. Café del Mar, the beach club brand that grew out of Ibiza, opened on Kamala Beach in 2017, bringing its name to the island's west coast. Around it, from Bang Tao and Layan to Kamala and beyond, new hotels, branded residences, restaurants, beach clubs and wellness concepts are changing how Phuket feels.

And it is still early. The mix of people arriving, the developments taking shape and the international names finding their way to the island all point the same way, with a great deal of room still to grow.

From a holiday to a lifestyle

Phuket is no longer only attracting people for a holiday. More and more, visitors are coming back, staying longer and making the island part of their lifestyle.

That pattern is what turns a resort area into somewhere like Ibiza or Mykonos: repeat guests, longer stays and a community that grows around the venues, restaurants and hotels they return to.

Why Luxxe is watching Phuket closely

We are seeing this first-hand. International brands looking to expand into Thailand and the wider region are getting in touch, and Phuket is very much on their radar. The island's growing stream of visitors, the new residences taking shape and the sheer range of what it offers are a big part of why.

Luxxe Hospitality brings four decades of experience, more than 500 projects across over 20 countries and direct relationships with more than 50 restaurant brands. If you are developing a hotel, resort, residential or lifestyle project in Phuket and want the right international concept in place, we would like to hear about it. There are very good brands looking for the right opportunities, and very exciting opportunities here looking for the right brands.
